Our approach

A method, not a collection of disconnected lessons

Every English in Real Life lesson follows the same four steps — because language becomes usable through a real situation first, rather than by memorising a rule.

CENA Method

Four steps to help you join the conversation

C

Context

You hear the scene as it might happen in real life: at work, in a shop or with a neighbour. The same characters return throughout the course, so you follow their stories as you learn.

E

Expressions

You learn ready-to-use language chunks for that scene — not a list of isolated words, but natural ways a British English speaker might express the idea.

N

Next response

You practise responding, and each response shapes what comes next. It is never the same sentence repeated in a loop.

A

Authentic sound

Natural rhythm, pronunciation and intonation, with audio as your reference — without invented phonetic spellings.

Level-by-level progression

What you will work towards

Goals aligned with the CEFR, without promising a fixed timescale.

Starting from the beginning · A1

Introduce yourself, ask for what you need, ask about prices and times, and talk about your routine.

Building independence · A2

Describe what happened, compare options, make plans and ask for favours politely.

Taking part confidently · B1

Give advice, report what somebody said, draw conclusions from clues and tell a story with a clear beginning, middle and end.

Adding fluency and nuance · B2

Defend a point of view, make predictions with an appropriate degree of certainty, and speak with greater precision and naturalness.

Why it is different

A structure connected to real life

Recognised references

Based on official Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) descriptors and reviewed against sources including the British Council, Cambridge English and Trinity College London.

Everyday British English

The English used in daily life in the UK, rather than generic textbook language.

Individual guidance

Live private lessons with attention to what you need — not a recorded course.

Review and challenge

Regular reviews and a final challenge in each pathway help you notice your progress, rather than simply finishing modules.
